Waikiki

Postby Kosta » Wed Jan 05, 2005 4:19 pm

G'Day from OZ.

Hope someone can help me out. I am heading over to Oahu for my first visit in April 2005. I am keen for surf but am not really ready for the North Shore so I will be spending most of my time around the Waikiki surf spots.

Can anyone tell me what the surf spots around there are like (especially in April) and what board types/lengths I will need for those spots.

Any help would be awesome.

Cheers

Where in waikiki are u,do u transportation? If so all the way from diamond head to bowls theres lik 10 spots in between but super crowded bring longer board ,because theres 85%longboards or funshapes on waikiki and they dominate,I came last year and bought two 6"2's and found a nice spot that wasnt too crowded if u dont mind sharpe reefs that were super shallow and dry spots on lower tides.Email at aloharightcoast@yahoo.com and i'll let u know the spot its not like any spot on south shore is secret but its just not to crowded and i have respect for locals.

still a good chance for good North Shore surf in April, it's not all 20' monster double ups sucking out over dry reef. do a little asking & poking around and you'll probably find something just your speed.

Town & Waikiki only if you have nothing else! 8)

the roads are paved to all the best surf spots on oahu.
in april you dont need to worry about being drownded by big surf.
north or south you might score.
when i 1 st moved here in april the surf sucked and i didn't really have a good sesion till may, good luck.

There must be at least 50 named spots between Bowls and Diamond Head.

Maybe I exagerate some but I can think of 20 to 25 off the top of my head and I've never been out to any Waikiki spot between 4's and DH. I bet the guys who surf there a lot have names I've never heard of for every little peak. If you go past Bowls to the beach park you'll find another dozen spots within walking distance

Looks like you got the full OZ experience - Love the link HMARK.

I'm hoping I get the same feel from the locals in Hawaii.

Whats your next destination?

I'll be on the South Shore (Oahu) April 5 - 16.

Yah, dont fret about epic swell unless some rouge beast makes its way to the country side...should be able to catch fun sized swell all around the island during that time but it myte be hit or miss. In town just cruise between diamond head and bowls like mentioned earlier and your good to go...all are fun waves, just get ready for a serious paddle if your used to beach breaks
