Becareful of what you ask for.

Postby Puerto_Rico_Surfer » Wed Dec 22, 2004 1:08 pm

Well fellas looks like the shit has really hit the fan now. I never expected what I recieved in the mail today. Even after I told them to go fuck themselves, lost faith in the system, and was going back to school (awol) till I finally twisted their arms enough to get me switched to a leave with out pay status. Would you believe it, it looks as though the United States Postal Service is going to transfer me to Oahu (with a slight chance it might be one of the other islands) as for Oahu its a lottery in where I'll be posted: could be delivering the mail on the North Shore, delivering in Pearl City, or hell I might even be delivering in Maleko's neighborhood. (Praying for the North Shore-- more laid back in terms of work load besides the obvious waves.
I just got the letter today, Honolulu District is requesting my personel file, driving record, etc so I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off gathering the necessary paperwork. I was planning a trip down to Brazil in Jan. but guess thats canceled cause got to save money for the possible move. If everything goes through I could possibly be in Hawaii by 1st week Feb 2005. Now this is not a sure thing cause I still have to get accepted, and there are some <facts> in my file.

1st there is the fact I got injured on the job-- not my fault and I am totally healed up I could run a marathon if I wanted-- but post offices that might be looking over your file dont look kindly on that--cause they always think then you can be a problem case later on down the line and ask for more medical leave for an old injury.

2nd because i was injured I used up alot of medical leave (plus it didnt help that at the time I was considering just freakin quitting so I used it up)
they dont like when you have used up medical leave, indicates you take off every possible day calling in sick and not showing up for work.

3rd the fact that I have been off the clock since august-- attending school full time 21 credits per semester--but they really dont give a shit what the fuck you were doing even if it does make you a better employee/ individual the fact that I havent been working for the last 5 months plays against me.

Anyway so I got to write a really good letter, plus I got post masters I have worked with to write good references and when I was working I always scored high/ and my attendance was good/ on time.

Wish me LUCK please I need it!!! Since I started working for the USPS in 2000 I have been trying for this transfer. Hope to be surfing with you soon Joe, Hmark, Neal (this time we'll take better picts at ol bitch), Bud, Maleko and friends.

I am a person that believes in Karma and fate and I see a lot of pluses working in my favor--1. broke up with my girlfriend of 6 years: 3 months ago and she didnt want to move to HI when I visited in the summer, she absolutely hated it and hates the fact that I surf (so I have no ties to hold me back now)
2. My current semester ends 1st week of Feb, that way I dont have to drop out of school and cancel my current classes.
3 the fact that I had given up hope of ever living in HI at least in the near future and then this comes through from the most unlikely source especially since I figured I was going to have to wait till I grad. and then attend UH law school or some other law school before I got there. Makes me believe it was meant to be.

By the way Bud if it goes thru I might need to ask a favor and with your connections help me find a place to rent (depending on where they station me--I like to live close to work and not drive to far).

Or anyone else for that matter ( I know this is asking alot)--have just a room I can crash at in the first week till I get situated and can find a decent place to rent. So I dont have to waste money on a hotel.

Lance

PS ONce I had posted this I realized it was in the wrong section-- feel free to move it BUD

incredible, to say the least.

seems like good fortune has befallen you left and right, prs. but you have to remember that you are causing all of this. "luck" is when opportunity meets with preparedness, an old seal friend of mine used to say. the opportunity is meeting with preparedness, in your case.

it's the natural course of things. it was meant to happen. i'm not suprised in the least.

i say smslavin will be over here before too long, also. you can smell it, it's in their blood... stoka boka!!!

i'm on the kaneohe side, 96744. you have my assistance should you need it. just gotta say the word...

Right on PRS.

I think the crew here comes from all the zips around the rock, so come Feb. should not be a prob w/ assistance. Everybody knows somebody here, or is at least related. (sometimes unfortunately related)

Heres to February! And that all the particulars falling into the right spaces.....

:!:

i think Bud is trying to dump a problem child off at the pound........

hey prs hope it all works out the way it is meant to!

if'n the transfer goes thru, it would seem predestined given the timing with the college classes and all!

i was sooo stoked when the hawaii med board granted me a license last year to practice over there....it opened the door to the realization of one of my fantasy goals as it's been my dream since gromhood to live on one of the islands. yeah the surf is world class, but i mostly appreciate the sights, sounds, smells, people with aloha, and the whole vibe over there...lots of energy, nowhere else like it. not so sure bout living oahu, but who knows....gotta keep an open mind to the whole deal.

right now i'm locked in a lease at my office for two more years, and am just saving cash, not wasting it on stoopid stuff, waiting for the day when i pack up the mrs and the lil' uns and head over.

gonna need a frickin suitcase of benjamins to snag a decent crib!

tick tock tick tock!

I hear you adder, one of my dreams also since gromhood was to live in Hawaii. Like you said yeah the surf is world class, but its everything else combined that makes HI so special. The only other place I found that begins to come close would be Bali, though to live there and make a living presents a unique problem.

If it goes thru I will miss PR, it was where I was born and I thought I would live my whole life. Though quality of life has really gone down the drain, not going to go into detail, but to give you an example: We have over 5 million people living on a island the size of Oahu--the murder rate averages 4 a day. Thats close to 1500 a year, if I remember correctly I read that PR has the highest per capita murder rate in the whole US. At least in HI if someone thinks you gave them stink eye they wont kill you like here, they'll just pound your ass , lol.

Hope I see you one day in HI.
