A SERIES OF STORMS IN THE NORTHWEST PACIFIC...THE SAME STORMS
FORCING THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE OVER THE ISLANDS...WILL SEND LARGE
NORTHWEST SWELLS TO THE ISLANDS THROUGH THE WEEK. THE FIRST SWELL
WILL ARRIVE TONIGHT AND PRODUCE SURF VERY CLOSE TO THE NORTH SHORE
WARNING LEVEL OF 25 FEET. THIS SWELL IS EXPECTED TO REACH BUOY
51001 SHORTLY...AND WE WILL BE MONITORING THE SITUATION. IN ANY
CASE...A HIGH SURF ADVISORY WILL BE ISSUED THIS AFTERNOON FOR THIS
EVENT ON THE NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES.
A VERY LARGE NORTHWEST SWELL WILL FOLLOW ON TUESDAY NIGHT. THE
STORMS GENERATING THE SWELL ARE DEVELOPING TODAY WITH AN UNUSUALLY
LONG FETCH OF NORTHWEST WINDS AIMED TOWARDS THE MAIN HAWAIIAN
ISLANDS. THIS IS DEVELOPING AS THE MODELS HAVE FORECAST. SURF WELL
ABOVE THE WARNING THRESHOLD OF 25 FEET WILL BUILD TUESDAY NIGHT AND
WEDNESDAY ALONG NORTH FACING-SHORES OF THE ISLANDS. WARNINGS WILL
ALSO BE NEEDED FOR WEST-FACING SHORES OF KAUAI AND OAHU. WE ARE
WATCHING THIS SWELL VERY CLOSELY SINCE THE SURF MAY BE LARGE ENOUGH
TO WASH OVER ROADS AND DAMAGE PROPERTY ALONG THE SHORELINE. THE
SWELL WILL SLOWLY SUBSIDE BELOW WARNING LEVELS BY THURSDAY...BUT
ANOTHER SWELL MAY SEND SURF ABOVE WARNING LEVELS AGAIN FRIDAY.
