YIPPEE!!!!

Postby Kelly7873 » Fri Dec 10, 2004 6:27 pm

The first giant swell of the season is being forecasted, with light straight east trades. 24' 18 seconds is Eddie size but it's way too early to place any bets down.

A much larger northwest swell is anticipated to arrive Tuesday night. The resulting surf heights may exceed the high surf warning level of 25 feet along north facing shores Wednesday. Surf is expected to remain above advisory levels along north facing shores Thursday and Friday.

Surf heights are forecast heights of the face or front of waves.

I have a stupid question.

I heard this swell might be as big as 1998 swells. Back in 98 they were measuring waves from the back. The Eddie (RIP)contest was in 40ft ffv surf.
Are they now surfing smaller waves???

The 24' 18s details are for open-water waves, measured by open-water buoys.
Once the groundswell hits shallow water, it jacks up to heights far larger than the open-water size, which is why a 24' groundswell can jack up to 40'+ on the North Shore Reefs...

Can't wait to see it!! Even if it is only on webcam (I'm in London, UK).

"40ft at Kaena" is that face value or Hawaiian(80ft)? Check Kelly's link

"25-35 ft at Waimea" face value or Hawaiian?

They were talking Hawaiian size. Actual face height would be hard to call. Image
Ken said he caught a bigger wave before Hank showed up.

that waves not THAT big ANYMORE.
At the time it was monumental, but now its pretty standard.
these days they'll be pulling into that shit and not running and gunning for the shoulder.

But I wont be there, so who am I to talk.
