I was talking to my film geek friends who are all into the new Red cameras (already like the name!) but the 30k pricetag is kinda steep for now. They mentioned that at the NAB tradeshow this year there was a new mini camera that's coming out supposedly in early 2009 which fits in the size of your palm and gets 3k resolution. That's 3x the res of your 1080 hd tv. In a tiny camera. That could fit easily into a water housing the same size or smaller than the ones photogs use. The big news is the price is supposed to be less thank $3000. That's just the camera and not the memory cards but still! 120 frames per second means ureal slow motion drive by shots.
This is the camera

This is what all that 'resolution' babble really boils down to
Been looking to get into water/surf footage for some time now. Hopefully you guys will be throwing some spray in my direction soon. Sorry if you ran out and bought a 'regular' old HD tv already, though.

Sweet, yeah give me a shout if you're using one. I did an HD workshop recently and those guys weren't that stoked on the Red. They said the numbers are kinda fuzzy math and the camera is still BETA even though they are selling it for big bucks. Looks like the Panasonic HVX is still the best for the price.

It's easy to get psyched about big numbers with things like this... But think about it. If you have a camera that is capable of 3x the resolution of anything you can play the video on, when are you going to benefit from it?

Red ONe website is listing Scarlet as 'in the process of change'
Not surprisingly Cannon just announced their new Eos 5D Mark II which shoots up to 12 minute clips of full 1080p. That means you can shoot sick wide angle HD video with a regular slr housing. Neo you getting this?

Plus Canon actually has a repair place on Ward so no long warranty postage nightmares.

Yeah I was drooling when I first saw that. Lots to be said for fast frame.
