Aloha Everyone, Hauoli Makahiki Hou!
Heads Up!!!! We must work fast as DLNR made comment today at the Small Business Regalatory Board hearing that the Land Board Hearing on the parking proposal, which is our last chance, will most likely be held on Friday, January 25. That is 2 weeks from tomorrow!!!! We need to check the web-site daily & notify everyone as soon as you see it posted. We need to give everyone notification of this hearing as we need as many people as possible to get there and testify!!! This is it, unless we get our contested case hearing. But as far as the procedure steps go, this is the last one. Next will be a toll booth at Bowls this summer!!!! So, please please, start passing the word around NOW, just to let everyone know that this could be the date and we need everyone to make some time for this. DLNR is moving fast, very fast. We almost got a stall at today's hearing as the Chair. made recommendation that small businesses be notified & another chance to testify regarding the rule change, & they wanted to hear from them as not one came out, but unfortanatly the rest of the Board didnt agree with her so they voted to recommend that DLNR's parking proposal go to the Gov. for signature however, with the comment that the public is opposed to this. So....we do have a good chance if we are there in numbers, we need to have a lot of opposition there that day! Please, please, make the time to attend this hearing as the is our last chance to speak up and say NO!
Mahalo,
Melissa

People from coastal areas of New England states are familiar with the process of gentrification. Basically it's taking what belongs to the public and making it private by sketchy interpretations of existing statutes which go against the spirit of the law. Capitalism at it's finest.
And you wonder why outer islands look at us like we're the death star? Cause they're staring at the future.

hawaii been there, done that...the alii used to control/own everything...
anywayz, this kind of thing ain't limited to oahu, cuz of lawsuits/liability and/or fear of them, the state is contemplating doing this or something like this on a number of highways like honoapiilani and even hana hwy...also blocking off alot of "unofficial" lookouts and whale watching or scenic sites cuz of lolos like boy who stuck head inside of blowhole...
