G-LAND

Postby megaprober » Wed Jun 02, 2004 1:15 pm

IF YOU SURF IT YOU WILL BLEED!!!

this should be the motto of g-land. i was hoping that some of the others here might have some stories about this epic wave.

my take on the place is that it lived up to it's reputation and beyond. even the small days were displaying peeling almond shaped barrells that went on for 50yrds or more. then when it got bigger the barrell remianed the same, just many feet wider. the waves i saw on thw bigger days came cracking down the line with little water sectioning and the wave just wide open and usually with a person tucked up inside holding a high line just funneling down the reef. money trees seemed shallow and you might get bounced, but i surfed speedies most of the time due to the false sense of safety i got from my first session there at real high tide. as the days grew so did the abrupt reality of shallowness of speedies. i've never seen any wave more consistently batter surfers in my life. in one twnty minute span i got bounced, my friend zack duck dove into the reef twice, chris got a gash requireing 10 stitches (but only got 6) in his foot from pulling in and going over then whacked with his is board (fins) and christian broke his board....all at speedies. that was just our group. i saw numerous other people with long srapes from being dragged across the reef. my last wave at speedies was so shallow that the reef actually contorted the face with gnarl and gurgles. all in all an amazing wave that even though the end section goes square at lower tides in 6 inches of water (no bullshit) the remaining waves are very ridable and some are even fun. i'll be back for more knowingly prepared that some may come at a sacrifice, but that's what g-land is all about.

thats pretty funny megap yeah i guess i should agree with you. My two friends an I surfed it back in aug of 94 and the guys there said it was the biggest all year. two days it was a solid 12 feet hwn (nobody went out had a 7'0" fer my gun an a 6'0) and the first day was a solid 8 feet, consistent and pounding. Believe it or not the water was freezing at the time, i was wearing a helmet the whole time but haha i got stitches in my knee! faaaak i didn't touch the reef other than that and it was just three stitches i think? their were many guys killing it and getting pitted! one young californian was pulling out some insane airs and sometimes pulling them off! but what a perfect barrel from kongs all the way ta speedies. anywhoo sounds like you had a good time mebbe see ya in the water. loha,

By the way Joe did u do the editing. If so what program did u use? I have some video that I have shot and loaded onto my computer, I want to add music to it and edit out the dead parts to make it more enjoyable.

I din't do the editing. The guy who did used Pinnacle. I just got Abode Premier, but its ultra complicated. Pinnacle is pretty good, and easy to use........I reccomend it...
