Their shop opened here a few months ago. I've never been there but from the looks of the auction, it sounds like they're shutting down already. For a while now they have been bombarding local online classifieds with their surfboards. Really unusual guerilla spam-type marketing. I believe it's originally a South African company. Made famous when Shaun Thompson was riding for them (in the 70's?). Lots of used Spider boards being sold. Which seems a bit fishy to me. The one's that I've seen in person had a real "pop out" look and feel to them. That's just my 2 cents. Never rode one, so for all I know they might be great boards.
Spider Surfboards is out of Hermosa Beach, not related to Spider Murphy in South Africa. The guy who shaped most of Shaun Thompson's boards. There was a real Spider Murphy gun on surfboard shack a few weeks back.
The Hermosa Beach company is named "Spyder Surfboads" with a "y". The South African company, linked to Spider Murphy, is named "Spider Surfboards" with an "i". The boards in the auction are from South Africa's "Spider Surfboards". If you look in some of the auction photos, you can see their replica Shaun Thomson single-fin.
