Here's the situation:
You call up a bro and are like "hey, bro...I'm going for a surf" and he's like "great, when can you get here" and you're like "20 minutes".
You call him halfway there and he tells you to wait somewhere with the car because the parking is all fucked up where he's at, and now you're sitting in the car.
Five minutes goes by and you call him. "Yo bro, what's up" and he's like "Be right there".
Nother five minutes goes by and you call him. "Be right there."
Nother five minutes etc, etc...
I know if this is a 'bro' bro you wait as long as it takes, but say he's only semi-bro status (surfed with him less than a year but you hung out on a couple of holidays n' bbqs n' shit).
HOW LONG DO YOU WAIT?
How long?

You already waited too long in my opinion, just leave at that point. When he calls you once he gets there tell him he took to long, end of conversation.

used to know this guy that did sort of the same thing. he eventually came to be known as "make you wait nate". any this guy would say he was going to get you anf like three hours woud go by becuase he had to make various stop along the way...generally for drugs...weeded that guy out fast. when it come time to surf the reality is that if you aren't going in direct line to the surf...your really not a surfer in my opinion. only under dire circumstances does a surfer deviate from the path. my codes of conduct become obvious when i was at UH years ago.
1. don't take anybody with you that isn't at your house when you leave....meaning you can spend just as much time in the "picking somebody up mode" in town as it does to drive straight to the north shore.
2. watch out for alternative motives when somebody needs to get their leash or boardshorts "on the way". you know who you are.
surf time is for just that...stay focused.
