surfing at Chuns?

Postby JeSennia » Mon Dec 12, 2005 12:00 pm

hey everyone, I've been surfing at White Plains since August ...am comfortable on small waves 2 to 3 feet but lately conditions have been poor..I understand it is due to winter and that the better conditions are on North Shore. A buddy at a surf shop recommended Chuns..just doing some homework to see if this is a good spot ? Is it typically a good spot for low or hi tide or does it matter?

Chuns is regarded by most as a 'soft' wave for the NS. But if you're still a beginner and you've only surfed White Plains, you might be in for a big surprise. I highly recommend tagging along with someone who is more experienced for several sessions before you venture out to the country on your own. Especially if you're concerned about how shallow a reef break is at lower tides.

I understand that on some days at White Plains the windswell surf might not even break at high tide, but become surfable at low tide. So, unless you're talking about the tiniest waves and whether they will break at all.... tides, at this stage in your surfing makes little difference. You want lots of time in the surf and catching lots of waves --- hold quantity over quality at this point.
