"Song Stuck in Your Head" Syndrome (article)

Postby neosponge » Thu Dec 01, 2005 6:34 am

Yet another article from my Road Runner Hawaii surf column:

"Song Stuck in Your Head" Syndrome

Unlike a lot of sports/activities, surfing typically has a lot of down time just sitting and waiting in the lineup. During these times, the mind inevitably drifts and wanders, grasping for something to cling to and lock in on. That is when the mind is most susceptible to the dreaded "Song Stuck in Your Head" Syndrome (or SSIYH Syndrome)...

Thanks all.

Damn! My daughter has been playing a stupid song that is a prime candidate for SSIYH Syndrome. Play it at your own risk:

Used to be a song they played at the end of the old "Launch" Body board show. "Surfin" on a Waaaave....." Some locals guys wrote it, used to crack me up.

Perusing through the latest Discover magazine, I found this cool R&D question with someone asking... you guessed it: Why Do Songs Get Stuck in Our Heads? This phenomenon actually has an official term--"having an earworm." Read more about it here: Why Do Songs Get Stuck in Our Heads

Speaking of songs stuck in your head, I saw a chick with a fucking Ipod in the water yesterday. I think those things do not belong in the lineup.

You will spend half an hour trying to figure out what the fuck they are saying, and then the next two weeks trying to forget it.

That's another song that my daughter is hooked on. She got the words memorized. Thankfully, I haven't succombed to the SSIYH Syndrome for this song... yet.
