I have surfed Rockaway during the fall when there were huricane swells and during the winter. Fun waves and no crowds. Though the water is nasty and sometimes has a BBQ after taste to it LOL

that water is thick, prolly hovering in the low 40's since the photo was taken in march. Odd to see a right coming in like that, usually off the jetty like that is a left, the army corps of engineers did a big dredging project so the sanbars are all screwed.
Slap I doubt they were scared to paddel out, just home nursing their hangovers.

yeah thats the truth major problems from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
During the peak season the park police move in full force and do ticket blitzez all summer long. Not only surfers though, open beverage summons, parking, litering, all types of summons. Cant walk the Dog, gotta pick up the poo. Can only surf when guards are on duty.
But after Labor Day its like a ghost town and back to normal, all the tourists disapear back into the city, lifeguards go off duty and once again its the boon docks.
Every summer its the same bullshit.
They just renamed the area in the pic after a local guy who perished with the WTC and thats now the offical surfing beach.
His name is Richard Allen and heres a lil story form the local paper.
