Clark foam closure

Postby olly » Tue Dec 06, 2005 2:59 pm

having thought about this, i think that this may not be a bad thing for surfing, like bud said Clark foam has had the monopoly on blanks for decades. This has forced the market to stay stagnant with an old and unnecessarily fragile technology. people now might be willing to make a change away from polyurethane to something newer, stronger, lighter and less toxic.... or not... :?

I'm OK with that as long as I don't have to buy some sweatshop made plastic pop out or have to spend $600 for a new high tech custom. I hope that the prices don't go up too much. A friend went in to an old school shop and they said they used to blow foam in shop and will do so again if needed. In a couple of years there may be some super indestructible blanks out there.

true. spoke to the guys at the T&C factory and they get their blanks from australia so they don't expect to put up the prices on their boards. apparently Merrick and Rusty knew about the closure and bought up all the remaining blanks, which basically screws the smaller companies as they can't get any, leaving just the big companies. that really sucks. :(
