Rich swam out with his digital camera in a water housing, trying to get some pics but I completely kooked. He got a couple sweet photos of some guy who was ripping. Massive crowd. I bungled a floater and board hit me, felt like I broke a rib. I gave up, we went in and I took the camera from Rich, then went back out with fins and bodyboard to try to shoot. First time for me with fins and bodyboard - sore legs! I kept getting pounded trying to hold the camera and situate myself on the bodyboard in the impact zone. Later found out the camera switch somehow got knocked into movie mode and all the shots I took didn't come out. Faaak.

Fun solo session in some very punchy Rocky Point. Only me and a few guys taking the rights. Ross Williams was killing it.

Neal from Pipe, waves all over the place but some had excellent direction. Scored a nice slot across the middle, straightening out just before it shut down, almost took out some guy who was bailing in front of me.

Sweeeeet sesh using my new 7'3" for the first time, board works unreal, surprisingly light & loose. Met Fabian and his wife on the beach. Rich came out about 9am. Some damn fine waves, but inconsistent. Lots of closeouts but the inside middle section was standing up and pitching. Strong current pulling towards Holtons, some big sets outside. Almost no one out! I had a good session, capped off with probably the best full on barrel I've had all season. Met regular George.

Poor session for me at Rocky Point. Kooked out forever, took over an hour to get warmed up, even then only a couple satisfactory rides. The carbon fins seem too stiff, gonna try the real small X-2's tomorrow. Jones (not sure if mikala or brother) was killing it. Little Jon Jon getting "push in" help from a friend, ripping it up...

Sunny; Glassy calm all morning

Compared to last eve, slightly better session for me at Rocky Point, but still poor. The smaller fins made a big difference, held good off the bottom but maybe need to play with placement to adjust for the slide on roundhouse. Again only a couple satisfactory rides. Looked like Neal had a great session, on one paticular ride popped a killer air rollo thingy. Syril came out right behind me, getting some excellent waves, stoked on his new board he shaped. Rich had more than his share of the best sets and even though he said he wasn't, surfing well, snapping all over. Beschen bros were killing, as well as that Kekoa kid. Lots of lenses on the beach. Unbelieveable glass and sweet waves all morning.

Clear skies; Calm to very light sideshore winds (SE)

Yesterday (Wednesday) I was early for a lunch appointment in town so I cruised Diamond Head to check the surf. It looked bloody sweet. Head high, light winds and only a few people- damn strange, I didn't know any swell was running?! Country is flat so it was hard to have to drive away from this.

Anyway, caught some of it today and it was still waaay above average. Very smooth and light light winds. A few head high peaks, though mostly about chest high, and often very workable walls. Took a while to adjust though - compared to country, most south shore surf is so gutless. Still it was fun fun fun. Spot regular and fellow new dad (other) Rich joined the lineup mid way through. Also met a friend of Hiram's (Miles), we were tripping on a guy who was fully amping and paddled for EVERY wave that came near him. BrotherRich came out about 11:30 and ripped as usual.

Felt good to go leashless. Fair to below average session for Bud. Lost the board only once during the long session, a short swim up onto almost dry reef, no board damage. The sky was clear and the sun was blazin. On the way up the trail after surfing, had to run as my feet were being cooked. Face, shoulders, back all fully baked; recently got a long overdue haircut which exposed pale skin and scalp that was especially burnt and sore. Yikes, summer is looming :-(
