Hooked up with GL Craig
at 6:30 this morning and we hit our "old faithful" spot on the South east
shore. Moderate
sideshore winds made
it quite sloppy, but at least there were some almost head high sets and
only 3 others out. Tide
was low and it looks
like Craig will have a few reef scars to add to his collection. He's been
in the water almost the
whole time he's been
here and is definitely stoked! 2nd wave his leash broke in the impact zone
& the surf sent his body
board all the way across
the almost exposed inner reef, but he marched right back out for some more.
. .
I bit later 3 other guys
came out and I paddled up to the one guy that looked familiar. "Hey are
you related to Tony
Moniz?" I sez.. . . As
the words came out I knew I had stuck my foot in my mouth. . . He sits
up on his board and looks
at me with crooked grin
and sez- "Believe it or not, it's me, Buddy. Just a few pounds bigger".
. . . I had been
thinking this guy looks
exactly like Tony but I didn't want to embarrass myself-----good job, Bud....
phaaaarq!! Anyway
I kept telling him he
looked just the same as the last time I'd seem him (true) and I asked the
stupid question cause I
didn't think he'd still
look the same after all these years, but he wouldn't let me off the hook
:)
His power attack is still
incredible even in the tiny surf. . . can still see why so many thought
he was Dane Kealoha.
He kills huge Pipleine.
Neal came out on his bodyboard
about an hour later; Stoked to hook up with Craig also. On his last wave
(a nice head
high set) I watched him
blast the top, whip a perfect roll coming down with lip, then land it all
in one smooth quick
maneuver.
I went out leashless again- never had to swim for my stick!
I had to get back to work,
so we all met on the cliff for a picture.
I think Neal & Craig
went surfing somewhere else afterward.
Good surfing to you,
Bud
